We just finished a whirlwind trip to DC. It was less than 36 hours in the nation’s capital, to meet up with part of the team from our Smithsonian project and check out the space for the exhibit. I like to make the most out of every trip, so I wanted to stay somewhere that had a lot of history. In DC, that’s almost every place. Honestly, my first choice was the Watergate Hotel, but oh boy, it had some bad reviews! So we ended up at the Riggs, built in a former bank. The building dates back to 1891, and was the bank of 23 former presidents! But, for me, that wasn’t the most interesting thing about it. The Riggs has, to put it mildly, a subtle feminist agenda. It’s not in any of their branding, but all over the hotel, there are little touches highlighting and elevating women.
