You’ve seen the first few pages of the book. Want to take a peek at what they looked like before they were finished? Let’s go page by page and look at Joanne’s script and my layouts to see how we got to the finished product. Joanne’s script initially called for this to be a one-page splash. I spent a fair amount of time trying to make this work, but the issue I kept running into was the fact that the scene felt like it needed a very wide space to illustrate the emotional impact.
I love the commentary and thought processes. It's important to get the bus right even if the reader doesn't know. Sergio Aragonés says every one of his ships he draws in Groo could sail. It doesn't matter if no else knows that. Sergio knows that. Those decisions gave authenticity to a comic.
I love this first issue and look forward to seeing where the story goes from here. Thanks for sharing.
I loved the free "Sirens" book enough to subscribe. Thank you for posting your process - it's wonderful to see. I've only recently tried Substack on PC and would find it more convenient on my phone, but I have an android. How do I find your posts on my handset?
Hey Elizabeth! 1. thank you for subscribing! 2. We're also both on Android! Every post goes directly to your email, so if you can check your email on your phone you can also read the posts that way. Otherwise, open up GlassEyeComics.com on any browser on your phone and you can read the posts that way. The site is very mobile phone friendly. :)
(DOPE)³ outstanding! YEAH making sure we get it right is always a trial BUT 'the effort is made, the decision becomes final, and then keep it pushin'.... Best way to describe an Artist Life.
I really appreciate the insight on the creative process. Love the opening pages — really looking forward to more.
