Sirens of the City is a very New York book. And that's because I was born in Manhattan, in the 1980s. As an infant, I slept in the kitchen of my parents’ Greenwich Village apartment—because the place was too small for me to have a bedroom and the kitchen was the warmest spot. I saw the Ramones at Roseland when I was 13, and bought my prom dress at Patricia Field's on 8th Street. I was a very New York kid.
But Khary...Khary's from Boston. And even though he's lived in New York for 20 years now, will he EVER be a real New Yorker? When do you finally, truly become a New Yorker?
Well, if you ask me, all REAL New Yorkers have cried on the subway.
So here’s a little comic I wrote, illustrated by my good friend and incredible artist, Paige Pumphrey, about that very special, very NY experience.
Lovely comic. Thanks for sharing. <3
