No, we were not at SDCC this past weekend. You didn’t miss us. But we couldn’t help but reminisce about allll the SDCCs we’ve done before. Joanne has been to every one since 1997! And Khary…well, a lot of them, but not as many, because he’s just not as cool. (Guess who’s writing this post?!)
Take a little trip down memory lane with us!
1997. My first year in San Diego and I got to hang out with Grant Morrison, Mark Millar, and Chris Batista. Obviously I was hooked.
2002. Khary’s first SDCC, with Ed Tadem & Francis Manapul. Clearly everyone understood how to dress for California except for him.
2004. Khary gets to draw a sketch FOR Rob Liefeld. Achievement unlocked.
2009. Sometimes you have to leave the con behind and hang out at the pool with Amanda Conner.
Unfortunately, snoring Frank Tieri is part of the package.
2010. It’s just not San Diego without Pia Guerra and Ian Boothby. They’re always my go-to for a quiet dinner or drink away from the madness of the show.
2016. With two of my favorite people, Kieron Gillen and his mom. I’m wearing a sling here because I insisted on doing the con right after shoulder surgery. I’ve also done the show on crutches with a fractured pelvis, and with a cane after hip surgery. I just really love comics.
2017. Our first SDCC as an actual couple! Even the balloon people are excited for us!
2019. Todd McFarlane photobombed our Excellencesigning. It was a good show.
But 2019…was also the last SDCC before Covid.
Alright, that’s it for the past. We’ll bring you back to the future soon with NEW SIRENS OF THE CITY NEXT WEEK! Tell your friends!
